The TRB Life 9-3-20 – Video drop and 3D Printing for the MantisX

The TRB Life is a view into my life as a content creator in 1 minute or less videos. In this episode, Video drop and 3D Printing for the MantisX, I talk about the latest video that I am releasing called Using the Mantis X10 Elite to become a better rifle shooter. I also talk about 3D printing for some future Mantis X10 videos.

As you know from previous episodes of The TRB Life I have been printing mag baseplates with pic rails. In this episode, I show you one that I printed.

3D printing has changed a lot of things for me as a content creator. If something breaks or just doesn’t work out, it could be days for a new part to show up. I can typically find a design online that I can use or modify and be back up and running in a matter of hours.
It has taken me some time to get the hang of doing the slicing and printing of models. However, it has become second nature. I usually print in PLA+ from eSUN, but lately, I have been printing in PETG from eSUN. PETG was a learning curve for me. I learned to not overthink the settings that my slicer (Curra) was telling me to use. Since then my prints have been turning out better than I would have imagined.
I did my 3D printing for the MantisX in PETG because it is more heat resistant than PLA and PLA+
If you want to get into 3D printing, it is cheaper than you would think. A basic setup of the Ender 3 (which is what I run) is under $300. I have upgraded my printer over the past few months but that was just because I wanted to use other filaments and wanted stiffer bed springs.
Below is my printer and it has come down almost $70 since I purchased mine. Check out my 3D printing for the gun person page for more information on my setup.
